My Fave Shop launch

Am off on leave first thing tomorrow for the week which means I'll be missing the (in-theory) launch of Myfaveshop.com (I refuse to do the midword capitalisation - so very 2001). This outfit has some pretty heavy-duty names engaged. John Clare, ex supremo at DSG (Dixons Group to you and me) is Chairman, Michael de Kare-Silver (ex chief exec at AKQA and other things) is onboard as chief exec, and there are a number of other luminaries of the digital retail space in the area. Looks like a fairly hefty wage-bill upfront but who am I to wonder.

The proposition is interesting and builds on social-shopping as a mash-up of two of our favourite things - shopping and bragging. I haven't seen the screenshots yet as I missed that particular presentation so am as keen as anyone else to see the real deal - supposedly going live on Monday 30th. Should be a laid-back weekend for their systems guys then!

Social-shopping is one of those ideas that seems like it should be a good thing but I can't quite figure out how to pull it off. The incentivisation needs to be more than just bragging-rights re your reviews and ratings. Incentivisation also needs to go beyond a loyalty-points system because, well, that's been done and is being done. Loyalty points is a crowded market that you can only ever get a small twist on.

Social-shopping then can have good uses around service, experience and trend-spotting in crowds. Let's hope this is where Myfaveshop is heading and not just a shopping-mall with its own loyalty card ...

Hi Pasquin,

We are live now - www.myfaveshop.com - so I hope you will come and take a look, and be reassured that we are so much more than a loyalty-card driven virtual mall. We are very keen to ensure that the user experience is as good as possible. We'd to hear what you think, so do get in touch with any comments.

Hi - had a quick look this morning and is looking good. I kind of get what you're driving at. Obviously you'll need to gain momentum with retailers and users alike. Love the shop-builder though - nice and simple. It strikes me that you can get a sense of almost virtually owning things - like the guy who wants that motorcycle jacket really rather badly. Or else we're making covetousness a spectator sport - again, fine by me.

Where does the incentization come from though - beyond wanting to show my family what I want for Christmas?

Hi Pasquin,

The incentive is in what the site offers to its users - convenience and fun all wrapped in one very attractive package.

Glad you love the shop builder - what do you think of the graphics and the 360 features?

Re the virtual ownership, that is a really interesting point. In that sense MyFaveShop is so much more than a 'shopping site' - personally I like the idea that I can 'shop' when I'm feeling skint as well as being able to properly purchase stuff when I've got money to spend. And as for the covetousness - don't we all like to see what other people are into!?

If you've got any questions you'd like to run past the MyFaveShop team, feel free to email me off-blog at kate.s@sputnikcomms.co.uk.
